Bachelor in Sociology
Sociology is both a theoretical and applied science that examines social institutions, relationships, interactions, change, and transformation. In today’s world, the social, economic and cultural changes have accelerated and the importance of sociology as a science has increased. The fields of interest and research of the sociology department, which aims to examine, understand and interpret societies in the changing world, embrace a range of topics from urban to rural regions, from family to societies, from inequality to social justice, from bureaucratic to economic activity, from new communication technologies to new social networks, and from personal space relations to public space encounters. The Department of Sociology aims to provide students with analytical and critical thinking and research skills.

Learning Outcomes
- Looking to the reasons and outcomes of social phenomena and changes in the globalising and rapidly changing world from a sociological perspective. Becoming skilled at defining problems, formulating them and finding solutions for them, and using appropriate analyses and models for this purpose. Developing contemporary approaches with the knowledge of classical and modern theories on how to analyse facts, phenomena and incidents better. Using acquired knowledge and skills in developing critical approaches on social issues. Using acquired knowledge in the policymaking processes for social problems. Participating in the designing or application phases of qualitative and quantitative research; translating data into analysis with the help of computers; having knowledge on the social outcomes of the researches, and evaluating these outcomes in terms of ethics and law. Behaving responsibly all the time taking these possible outcomes and effects into consideration.
Career Opportunities
- Students who graduate from this department are employed by various organizations such as the State Planning Organization, Turkish Statistical Institute, Development Agencies, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. They can also work in the private sector such as the media, advertising, and human resources. They can also work as experts and consultants in local and international independent organisations (ILO, UNDP, United Nations, etc.). Besides, students who would like to pursue an academic career can work as lecturers or Research Assistants at universities.
