Overview
The Department offers its students an elite program in languages and literary studies that aims at equipping them with the necessary theoretical and practical information and knowledge in the fields of old and modern English Literature. All courses offered emphasize the development of communication skills, intellectual growth, critical thinking and life-long learning.
The language of the program is mainly English, with four courses offered in a foreign Language, and few non-area courses offered in Turkish.
Program Specific Requirements
- One year English preparatory school is compulsory.
Learning Outcomes
- Provide students with knowledge on various topics related to the field to foster their skills of literary appreciation and analysis
- Enable students to identify and utilize literary terminology in the analysis of different genres such as novel, poem and drama to produce analytical and critical readings of literary works.
- Provide students with a variety of critical approaches needed for comprehension and analysis of literary texts.
- Provide students with the main language competencies, analytical skills, lifelong learning abilities and ethical values.
- Improve students’ skills of effectively working individually and in groups
- Provide students with basic skills in a second foreign (European) language.
- Develop students’ skills of using a variety of computer software and other IT related sources.
Career Opportunities
- Students who graduate from English Language and Literature Department may work in translation, media and tourism industries while there are also different career options in the education world, industrial and business organisations, and public or private sectors.
